Loop Pile Logistics: 3 Tips for Choosing Carpet

Posted on: 2nd August 2017

You could be forgiven for hearing the words ‘Saxony’, ‘Axminster’ and ‘Wilton’ and thinking these were just place names. In fact, as well as a region in Germany, Saxony is also a type of cut-pile carpet. Axminster and Wilton aren’t just towns in the West Country, they are also types of luxurious woven carpet. When it comes to choosing your material, there’s no need to be confused by the names or overwhelmed by the benefits of different carpet types. A small amount of internet research and a few simple tips will set you in the right direction to find your perfect carpet.

TIP 1- Lifestyle

Bell Twist and Pure living carpet

Give some consideration to your day to day routine. A hardwearing carpet in a forgiving colour might be best if you have pets or a young family.  A twist cut carpet, for example, combines luxury with durability. If you are less worried about young children, you could plump for more accentuated extravagance. Velvet carpet has a sheared surface pile, making for a very sumptuous finish.  Go a step further and choose a beautifully comfortable shag-pile carpet, with carpet textures available up to 50mm deep.

TIP 2- Colour

As with any type of interior decor, colour choice is important both practically and personally. Choose a colour that suits your decor but is also flexible should you choose to redecorate at a later stage. Dark carpets can bring a cosier feel to a room. On the other hand, lighter shades can help to make a room appear larger. Carpets that combine two colours to create a neutral blend can be a happy medium and are forgiving when it comes to stains.

TIP 3- Experience

Touching a carpet sample

Visit a showroom like ours, just outside Norwich, so you can sample as many different carpets as possible. It’s important to experience the carpets and appreciate the different materials so you can envisage how they will feel in your home. Focus your mind and consider if this is a carpet to lounge around on. Or instead, perhaps you are looking for something more practical and hardwearing. Whatever you choose, always try before you buy.
