Reform Flooring get the Gold Award for Recycling Vinyl Flooring

Posted on: 10th April 2017

We take our responsibilities to the environment extremely seriously at Reform Flooring. For some years now we’ve worked in association with vinyl floor recycling organisation Recofloor to make sure that all the old vinyl flooring we remove is properly recycled. 2017 saw us scoop the gold award for vinyl recycling.

Our Partnership with Recofloor

In 2009, leading floor manufacturers Polyflor and Altro teamed up to found Recofloor - an organisation whose prime purpose is to stop waste vinyl winding up in landfill. Recofloor works with distributors, construction projects and contractors like ourselves - making sure all waste vinyl flooring is collected and recycled. Partnering with Recofloor can reduce waste disposal costs by nearly 70%. It makes good business sense as well as being good for the environment. Last year, Recofloor won the letsrecycle.com award for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management.

Our Statistics for 2016

Recofloor supply us with bulk bags for our waste vinyl. We can put all of our off-cuts, roll ends and clean uplifted vinyl into these bags which are then collected by Recofloor and recycled into new flooring. Last year, Reform Flooring collected 11.82 tons of waste vinyl. That figure equates to approximately 1.3 tons collected by each of our fitters – enough to earn us the Recofloor Gold Award

In the few years that it has been running, Recofloor has prevented over 3,000 tons of waste vinyl flooring from heading to landfill – we are immensely proud to be part of the scheme and to have had our part recognised with a Gold Award.

Director, Robin Eglen, explains Reform Flooring’s environmental policy:

“All of us at Reform Flooring are committed to environmental sustainability in every aspect of our day to day business which includes a programme to reduce waste through strategic purchasing and recycling as much of our waste materials and packing as possible, with the aim of significantly reducing our carbon footprint year on year”
