Reform Flooring Wins Gold at the Recofloor Awards 2016

Posted on: 9th March 2016

Reform Flooring’s commitment to recycling was recognised at Recofloor’s fifth annual awards event, as we picked up the Gold Award for our efforts towards the vinyl take-back scheme.

Our Contracts Manager Nick Seaman collected the award on our behalf. The certificate was presented by former England football star Matt Le Tissier at a prestigious ceremony at Old Trafford.

The Recofloor Awards 2016

This year’s Recofloor Awards took on a football theme in honour of UEFA Euro 2016. The event was held at Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, and the day’s itinerary included a tour of the grounds.

Former Southampton and England footballer Matt Le Tissier hosted the event – a real treat for football fan Nick.

“I did get to meet Matt Le Tissier – but I admit that we spoke more about football than we did about flooring!” he said.

Le Tissier kicked off proceedings with sporting anecdotes (and a few jokes about his lack of flooring expertise!) before introducing expert speakers from the flooring industry. Speakers included Richard Catt from the Contract Flooring Association and Ian James from the Flooring Industry Training Association.

The day culminated in the awards ceremony, where Le Tissier presented trophies and certificates to Recofloor members who had gone the extra mile over 2015 – including Reform Flooring. We picked up Recofloor’s Gold Award for our work over the past year.

Recofloor’s Carla Eslava said:

“We were delighted to present certificates to our Gold Award winners in recognition of their commitment to the scheme. They collected high volumes of clean uncontaminated material for recycling in 2015.”

The Recofloor Gold Award 2016

Recofloor’s Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for 2016 were based on the volume and quality of vinyl waste collected from January to December 2015. To avoid putting smaller contractors at a disadvantage, the awards are calculated by the amount of material collected per fitter. Contractors had to collect over one tonne of material per fitter to qualify for a Gold Award.

Recofloor’s Jane Gardner said:

“Reform Flooring collected more than 10 tonnes of flooring via Recofloor in 2015, which equates to just over one tonne per fitter. This is a very impressive achievement and shows that Reform Flooring is taking its commitment to sustainability seriously.”

Our Partnership with Recofloor

Recofloor was founded in 2009 by leading flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyflor to prevent waste vinyl being disposed of in landfill sites. The scheme works in partnership with distributors, contractors, and construction projects, collecting and recycling waste vinyl flooring – which can reduce waste disposal costs by up to 70%. In 2015, Recofloor collected over 500 tonnes of material from over 650 members around the British Isles, setting a new vinyl flooring collection record. To date, Recofloor has diverted over 2,700 tonnes of waste vinyl flooring from landfill – and Reform Flooring is proud to be a part of that achievement.

Our fitters place any waste vinyl flooring into bulk bags provided by Recofloor when they return from a job.  Nick contacts Recofloor when our bulk bags are full, and they collect it for recycling.

Nick says:

“I manage the vinyl flooring recycling, but the award is thanks to the whole team’s efforts, and of course to our company directors for giving us the opportunity.”

Waste vinyl flooring isn’t the only thing we recycle at Reform Flooring; we also recycle cardboard and paper, and re-use pallets.

Reform Flooring at the Recofloor Awards

Our longstanding relationship with Recofloor has seen us win a number of Recofloor Awards. In 2014 we won Contractor of the Year for our commitment to the scheme, and last year we celebrated a double win, scooping a Recofloor Gold Award and Recofloor Champion. We’ll be working hard throughout the rest of the year to continue our run in 2017!
