Summer Interior Trends for Your Home

Posted on: 8th June 2016

Although trends in interior design tend to be cyclical, carpets and flooring are a more permanent feature than, say, cushions. Much as we would appreciate the extra business, not many people will be ripping out their flooring for the new season. Flooring needs to form a solid base, creating a backdrop that you can accessorise with the season’s hottest trends. Let’s take a look at three of them.

Mirror, Mirror

Giant mirrors in antique or vintage metal frames were a feature of the interior design shows in Paris earlier this year. Mirrors reflect the natural light entering through the window, lighting up darker corners. In keeping with the ‘past and future’ motif that is so popular in interior design this year, you could hang your vintage mirror in a bathroom with a modern vinyl floor.

Orange is the New Orange

Orange has not seen a surge of popularity like this since the 1970s when it was frequently and inexplicably paired with brown. Orange is everywhere this summer – paired with light colours and accessorised with modern technology such as bluetooth speakers – and it makes a room look fresh and inviting. An orange feature wall works well in a room with a light coloured carpet or pine effect flooring.

Back to Nature

Foliage is another hot trend this summer. Leaf and fern prints are popping up on wallpaper, cushion covers and bedspreads. It looks great with a hardwood floor and some real pot plants.
